The opposite actually, but please do go on.

Pp is a teacher with experience at the school and has posted about this before.

We have a pre-k and a 1st grader. It’s great, most kids are truly bilingual there so there’s real mix of playground languages. Feeder aside, it’s a really good school with strong leadership and great, experienced teachers.

If you find DCI an acceptable middle and high school option, then it makes sense to prioritize those feeders. Bruce Monroe has a sizeable number of families that plan on Deal, Adams, or MCPS for middle school. Neighborhood families that need to rely on the lottery for middle school (and aren’t MacFarland folks) tend to make very different choices, and reasonably so.

Thanks for all the feedback! We are a Spanish speaking family and want a nurturing environment where Spanish is heavily spoken. Do you think we would get that experience there?

Also- thoughts on giving up Stokes EE match for BM?

We’re a BMPV family and absolutely. It is about two-thirds Latino, and many Latino parents speak minimal English. No 50/50 immersion school, which is all in DC after K (BMPV is 90/10 through K), can force a kid who defaults to English to speak Spanish outside of class time. Stokes or BMPV or anywhere else. But it is a wonderful environment with a high performing cohort of kids, and we’re happy enough there that we’ve turned down Stokes and MV offers to stay. That said, if you’re closer to Stokes or highly prioritize the DCI preference, then I may still choose Stokes. But as an elementary school itself, BMPV is equal or better in the areas important to us.

Oh sorry, you said Stokes EE. Definitely don’t commute to EE from Petworth or thereabouts! Definitely not worth it, and Stokes Brookland makes tons of offers in elementary grades. You’ll have other chances at Stokes without having to drive to Ward 7!

There’s a cohort that’s gone on from BM@PV to MacFarland too.

We're IB, and I have two there. We've been happy there overall, though the older kid hasn't had the best year. About half of families are IB, and many who are OOB still live nearby. We see many families walking to school every morning.

I live in the neighborhood and not too many IB people choose to go there, but it is good according to DCUM. Some of my neighbors attended for pre-k, but left by K.

Any thoughts or anything a new pre-k family should know about Bruce Monroe? I don’t see much on here
