Nobody makes the move to MD or VA just to be in bounds for bad schools. OP asked the question and it was answered.

There are affordable places in bounds for BCC, but people making the move tend to find a way to get in bounds for the better schools.

Have thought about this extensively and we are going to move from the Hill to IB for JR or MacArthur. We are city people and I think that being able to walk to school and a later school start time are overall worth it. Financially the other options would be Silver Spring or Bethesda and I’m not sure Blair, Einstein or BCC are worth the upheaval. My biggest reservation is probably lack of in state college admissions. Yes we expect to pay for tutoring but my kid would likely need that anywhere.

Move to NoVa. HS goes by fast and the in-state college options in NoVa are better than Md. In DC, they are non-existent.

So I went through this same thought process, and we ended up getting lucky with Walls. But if not, I had seriously considered renting a small apartment in bounds for JR. Why not? Keep your DC home as a "country"/weekend home

Based on people I know who’ve left DC, it all depends on housing budget, where they have local family, and, to an extent, commute. Takoma Park, Chevy Chase, Arlington, Fairfax, Ashburn, Crofton, Severna Park, Frederick County (MD)…

How much are you willing to spend on a house?

If you're considering moving now, also think about in-state college options. I'd rather move to MD for a whole bunch of reasons, but there are more (and more appealing to me) in-state options in VA.

Depends on your commute and what kind of school you need. And what kind of area you like to live in. I'm thinking Tenleytown is right for us.

I'd also talk to some realtors, OP. Figure out what/where you can afford and go from there. But, yes, post in other subs. Good luck!
