We have 2 1/2 weeks of family vacation. DS has 4 weeks of day camp and a full week of Scout camp that costs about $3,000 total. That is actually a bit over the cost but rounding up. He asked for a few down weeks which we said was ok.

There are a good number of fun day camps that cost about $350 a week but it sounds like people are picking the more expensive Cavella and the like camps. The camps sound great but are really expensive.

2 ES aged kids. Each kid will attend 7 weeks of day camp, because both parents have full time jobs. My camp budget is $6K and I set aside $500 a month for this. Most expensive camp is close to $1000 for two weeks. Cheapest camp is $300 for a week. Total for the summer will be about $5800.

What did you expect with three?

These numbers are insane. We have one kid and will spend around 2k for camp and classes. I have a flexible job that allows me to take several weeks off in the summer, though, so it is important to us to keep costs reasonable (since I don't get paid for that time off), and we don't need wall to wall childcare coverage. This summer my kid will be 7, and we are going to experiment with one week where she does swim class every morning and then see if she'll entertain herself for about 4 hours at home, and then she and I will do pool/playground/other activity. If that week goes well, we may do more of this next summer, and just a couple weeks of specialty camp, and then I might be able to work part time for the whole summer instead of taking half the summer off.

My kid hates camp. I guess I should be happy that we are not spending money.

We have to have camp as summer childcare, and simply cannot afford to do otherwise. We both need to work to pay the bills. We live in a small old house, not anyplace fancy, no cable, staycations not fancy vacations, etc. Camp is lower cost than a nanny, so that is also not an option financially.

Holy $#!% Please tell me you don’t also have a full time WFH job? (Either way - wishing you all the best!)

$3,600 for one kid. I can't imagine the numbers y'all are throwing around.

Our neighbor nannies for us over the summer. She takes the kids to the pool most days and they also have swimming lessons there. It costs us $1k per week for the nanny and around $1500 for the pool membership.

Between a few camps and nanny I cannot believe how much we are paying for activities this summer! Anyone else?
