I do think there is a suitcase school aspect to it and a large percentage of students live off-campus after first year. Might be a little tough for an OOS student with no ties to NC.

We drove through and looked but did not officially tour. It was a Friday around 4 or 5. Campus was completely empty. We literally saw 3 people and there was a line of cars out. My impression it was a commuter school.

A decent school that's also a bit of a party school. It's more relaxed partying than the REAL Eastern NC party school, ECU, though. I know a lot of people who went there and some got pretty good educations, some didn't, but they all still love the beach. It's a very normal college.

Intended major?
They are great for marine biology (for example).
Otherwise, it’s a regional state school that happens to be at the beach.

I have to do an almost 800 mile round trip to drop her off!

Just to clarify, every NC public university is UNC System school even NCSU, ECU, WCU.

It’s an alright school. Very large, mostly in-state students (as with all UNC affiliated campuses). Has a reputation as a party school, perhaps in part because of its beach location.

Have you done a campus visit? Does your child have an idea what they want to study? Are there other admissions offers being considered?
