+1. The year I did the lottery, every type A family at my kid's Cap Hill school that wasn't going private went to BASIS. All the non-type A's went to Latin.

You act like people had a choice. 99.9% did not. They got into one or the other. The end.

Anyone who got into either school had a good number, so it does somewhat reflect which one they ranked higher.

Exception to this is people with ok lottery numbers who rank Latin over BASIS: you might get a BASIS offer but definitely not a Latin offer.

I think that is largely right. Latin has gotten very hard to lottery into (even with spaces at Latin II Cooper). Basis is a lot easier to get into. Only a small segment ranks Basis above both Latins (Basis is a lot closer to a lot of the city including Capitol Hill).

Does it really matter, OP? Very difficult to get into either Latin.

Yes kids from CH commute to DCI via metro.

Same.

As if.

I think that was actually from 1991.

Is this right? We don't live in CH but rather close to the school and will decide between taking a spot or staying at our DCI feeder. (DCI is also relatively close and many neighbors go there but I don't think kids travel from CH to DCI?)

I was looking for those maps that show where kids live for each charter but can't find them.

IME, the families that go to Latin are generally chill (if we're going to be in 90s anyway) so that's why you don't hear many complaints.

+1. More than half the UMC neighborhood is at one of the Latins. People go to stay with friends and have a high school path.

1990 called and they want their saying back.

I feel that it’s both. We try each year based on an IB HS that’s a non-starter for us. Getting in would save us private HS tuition

I'm genuinely curious. We know a lot of people at both Latins. They rarely have negative things to say about it. But I also know that some kids from Latin try to apply to privates for 9th grade (not sure how successfully). So I'm genuinely curious if people are truly happy at Latin, or is it just the best of not-so-great options and people make the most of it?
