Mid rise is wildly more flattering than high rise if you have a belly. I think people often feel like high rise might be more comfortable or concealing of a poochy belly, but really it visually often has the opposite effect.

Agree with the posters that suggest you go to the store and try on a dozen or so different styles and take pics of yourself in the fitting room mirror, so you can look back and see objectively how you looked vs how you felt. (Not saying how you feel doesn’t matter…. It does! It just doesn’t always coincide)

There’s a bunch of brands trying to make barrel fit jeans trendy. It looks atrocious.

Socks are definitely back, but I’ve seen very few people outside their 20’s rocking that look. You can still do sneakers with socks or no socks.

For spring, ballet flats, Mary Janes, loafers, sandals or slingbacks would work too, depending on the type of jeans and the length.

Just get a pair of medium-wash, mid- to slightly higher-rise straight legs for casual wear. Straight legs are definitely the most versatile style and will go with most any casual shoe. I’d err on the side of a slightly wider leg opening—nothing smaller than 14 inches. For me, 14 or 15 is the sweet spot. Longer lengths and finished hems are coming back in style but you’d probably get more wear from an ankle length pair at this time of year.

For dressier occasions, I’d look at a darker wash trouser jean or bootcut. Wide legs are super-trendy at the moment, but much harder to wear, IMO. For summer, you could also go with something in white or ecru. If you wear more flats, I’d get ankle length. If you prefer heels, full length is probably better.

As long as they aren't super skinny/jeggings you are okay.

I like.the brand frame..they all look good. They have nice palazzo and crop styles that I would say are in. Nice balance of stretch and resilience. I'm tired of step and frayed hems, but they have finished regular hems too. You can always get coupons and discounts at the designer stores that carry them - bloomies, Neiman, Saks ..

Avoid skinny jeans. If you want a slimmer silhouette, the cigarette style is good. It's more fitted than straight cut but not squeezing your calves.

Baggy is in style (not boot cut, not flared, not fitted at the hips)... but at 50 this might look like a midlife crisis.

I think that the style is now “whatever looks good on you”. I’m being honest about that. Way back in the day, there were just a few influencers or fashion mags that set styles, and far fewer retailers. But now there are so many different fashions, so many retailers, and no shortage of influencers that show how to model different styles — that it is truly personal preference. A good Fit never goes out of style.
Given that you carry your weight around the middle, I think a trouser leg jean (not super wide) should work.

I rarely wear jeans - pants or skirts at work, and I tend to live in leggings on the weekends. All of my jeans are old and/or don’t fit.

I want to buy two new pairs of jeans. One for weekend daytime, and one for weekend nighttime/going out to dinners and casual social gatherings.

I’d appreciate suggestions for each pair - style, length, color.

I’m 50 and carry my weight in my middle area.
