For the parents with kids who applied to Banneker and Walls and did not get in, did they have 4.0? I’m wondering if my DC got ineligible due to GPA.

9th grade parent at Banneker. It might not be the worst idea to contact the school maybe the week before or after Spring Break. Perhaps it's a mistake if this turns out to be widespread. This would have been crushing to my DC as well last year.

Also, please consider McKinley Tech. We really gave it a chance last year when Banneker seemed unlikely and were pleasantly surprised. DC didn't get an interview at SWW.

Is this new? Last year I felt like everyone who interviewed at Walls and Banneker at least got a waitlist number. Even if it wasn’t great. Why would they reject someone who had the grades and recs to be worthy of an interview? I feel for you and your kids. Seems very unfair.

Oh my word, so sorry.

I'm feeling sad for my kid, too. I am not looking forward to breaking it to them in the morning.

Thanks you all. We looked at the results together. I’ve never seen him this depressed….

Ugh, that really stinks. I'm so sorry. It seems like it was a rough year for 9th grade applicants.

I'm so sorry! We're feeling really disappointed, too, and doubly so now that we have to figure out a new plan.

Sorry.

Thanks for your kindness. I had seen that and was puzzled by it since, again, I thought DC *did* meet the school's entrance requirement since they had an interview. Oh well.

My kid got an interview and still got ineligible at Banneker. They're waitlisted at Walls. What would cause this after a successful process?

I'm OP. The same was true for my kid who did not get an interview at Walls. But DC *did* interview at Banneker, so I was kind of shocked to see him determined "ineligible."

Yes. From MSDC:
"The school determined that the student is not eligible to attend. For example, DC Public Schools (DCPS) selective high schools and programs may deem students as “ineligible” if they do not meet the school’s entrance requirements and are neither matched nor waitlisted by the school after the selection process. Another example, a DCPS dual language program may deem a student ineligible if they do not demonstrate the language proficiency required. If you have questions about eligibility, please contact the school directly."

Anyone know what this means in the context of a selective high school (Banneker) that DC *did* interview for? I thought that making it through that first screen and getting an interview was what determined eligibility.

Is it simply a way of saying "not even waitlisted"?
