Op, break your sandals in before you go - even if just around the house. I wore two strap Birks around Europe last summer and brought some slide socks - basically slip on tubes (toes exposes) that protected the top of my foot from blisters. Barely visible, but did the trick for long treks..not needed for short.

Alas, fashion in Italy has taken a fall. I used to live there as a kid when locals took it seriously. La bella figura. Now it's all street fashion inspired junk. Maybe not in Milan, but the general folks milling about don't take it as seriously anymore. I travel to Europe a lot - my advice for southern Europe, classy boho chic rather than uncomfy dressing up. Take pretty cotton sundresses, a pair of white sneakers (I trashed mine at end of last trip as in left them in the trash/just wore them out), some spf clothing like coolibar or ikbul (their day dresses are great), jeans and a cute t shirt, comfy sandals for walking like Birks, flips, a pair of fashion /nighttime sandals, caftan/swimsuit, soft, thin duster or sweater capelet thing (easier imo than a sweater wrap)..forget the shorts. No one will look twice, but are they needed? Take clothes you can sink laundry and a bottle of woolite. Stuff dries in an instant in the med sun. Small or medium size crossover bag - for water bottle, wallet, sunglasses. Nothing tempting or accessible to thieves. Lose the fancy jewelry - there will be baubles to buy. Leave room to bring cute, unique items home. Anything you don't bring you can buy anyway. Have fun!

I would make sure to pack a battery operated misting fan. Italy and Greece in the summer is absolutely brutal.

I recommend white or tan linen capris with good Birkenstock or orthopedic sandals that you can walk in like this with arch support, comfy straps. Those can fit with tank tops or sleeveless tops

Greek-American here who goes to Greece every summer. As a PP said, it's going to be very hot--even with air conditioning--so dress accordingly (I'm assuming you're going some time between June-August). I can assure you that no one will care how you dress as a foreigner. Most places you'll be going will be overrun by tourists as it is, so you will get lost in the crowds. Nobody will be focused on you so dress for your own comfort.

I agree with no biker shorts (I would also add no skin tight leggings), but other than that, I don't think women there who are your age dress hugely differently than women here. I also agree that your feet will probably swell from the heat, so choose shoes accordingly. I wear roomy white sneakers (the brand doesn't matter so much as there isn't a single "it" sneaker in Greece) when I have to walk a lot or for airports/ferrys etc. to protect my feet, but mostly I wear open sandals (like Birkenstock Gizeh EVA) because of the heat-related swelling. Prepare to sweat a lot and need to change several times a day (especially in Athens) so pack extra clothing or be prepared to do laundry somewhere. I pack several pairs of light pants (not jeans because denim is too heavy), light T-shirts, and a few loose tops made from thin cotton that is breathable. If you'll be at the beach, light coverups are fine for most of the day. You'll need a light sweater or jacket if you'll be on an island or by the beach as it can get a bit breezy in the evenings.

You need comfy sneakers.

You don’t need jeans.

Wear what's comfortable and can keep you cool. If going to churches, bring some modest clothing (no bare legs/shoulders, a scarf is useful to cover up).

There have been some very miserable heat waves in Europe these past summers, esp in Italy and Greece. I'd skip all denim and go for linen pants instead (I also like silk+cotton blends). I think linen jersey fabric t-shirts are cute, breathable, and don't give that art teacher vibe that the more standard linen tops do.

Some people might disagree, but locals DO wear shorts if they are tailored/structured. Don't wear biker shorts.

I think shoe-wise you have to go for something that can accommodate lots of walking and possible feet swelling... what do you usually wear?
