The kid is 12. They have limited life experience and knowledge of area nonprofits. The parent is helping to give some ideas about partnerships the child could pursue. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this and does not mean it's not "child led". I say this as both a middle school teacher and Girl Scout leader.
