I have not found Primary to be narrow, fwiw. I found it to be too wide for my thin kid. Have had success with Tea and Speedo.

Speedo and TYR are super narrow. We had a lot of success with athleta tankinis when my daughter was 10. They don't stretch out as much as target bathing suits, and we could buy a 7/8 bottom and a size 10 top for her. It depends on how he wants her bathing suits to fit too.

You can buy different size tops and bottoms at Lands End.

Another vote for a training suit for competitive swimmers. Look at swimoutlet.com. There are cheaper brands than TYR or Speedo which would work like Sporti. The suits tend to be fully lined which is more comfortable for the beach.

My slim daughter recently outgrew size 24. She's 60 inches and 90 pounds now. She began wearing a 24 around 51 inches and 55 pounds.

Zara bathing suits for kids are surprisingly good quality and cut slim.

+1, especially since suits sized for competitive swim are designed to fit closely. You can even go to a swim shop and have them measure for the right fit, then buy off the sale rack. Since all suits stretch over time, they accommodate some growth, too. We've found competitive swim suits to be much more durable than playtime ones.

Primary is good for two pieces since tops and bottoms can be bought separately, and you can mix and match sizes and styles (tankini, rash guard, bikini bottom, boy shorts, swim shorts). And sales are good.

Second primary. The rashguards and tops are very slim fitted and you can mix and match sizes of tops and bottoms without them being bikinis per se.

We mismatch sizes from lands end. We buy tankini in one size and then her bottoms in a size down.

Could you buy two cheap tankini styles and use the 7/8 top and 10/12 bottom? My DD is in the same range and I agree that the size jump between 7/8 and 10/12 is enormous. It's like they assume girls hit puberty and need extra space in the bottoms for growing hips/bottoms.

And like PP said, Speedo or TYR is a good option. Mine is a swimmer and prefers her practice suits for the beach and pool now.

Gap also has sporty one pieces.

I’m looking out for some swimsuit brand recommendations for my thin 10-year-old daughter. We usually buy Target or Old Navy but we’re in this stage where size 7-8 are too small, particularly in the butt area, while sizes 10-12 fall off of her.
