Your real problem is that your DS is unkind.

The farting is a minor detail.

If he's doing it to you he's doing it to others at school. I'm surprised you haven't gotten a call about. My son hates this kids that constantly harrases him with farting on him.

He's 12. Ignore it completely. What I mean is, 100% ignore it with no reaction at all. The behavior will extinguish itself.

Restrict his diet to foods that aren’t gas producing. It’s probably his favorite foods anyway. And say he’ll need to see a doctor if it continues.

Correct him the same way you would when he does anything else rude.

“When you fart, say excuse me. Otherwise it’s rude to the people who have to listen to it.”

If you really want to make it an issue you have to decide on a consequence, communicate it, then follow through.

Personally this isn’t the hill I would pick.

Where do you want him to do it?

I think you need to completely ignore for a few weeks. It sounds like he is attention seeking.

So, make sure no one laughs, and each time dead pan “please be polite and do that in another room” or “please use a private place for that”
I would find it funny, but I know not everyone does. There is an ongoing war between the dog and DS. Dog can’t control but DS wants his revenge

Pick your battles. If this is part of a larger issue, deal with the larger issue, but by itself this doesn't sound like a big deal.

You can't intentionally fart unless you have gas, so I'd get to 'the bottom' of why he has such bad gas. Diary sensitivity, gluten sensitivity? Behavioral issues such as anxiety, depression, aggressive behaviors and sleep problems have all been associated with autoimmune disorders and allergies.

Maybe he has a gastro issue?

I mean if he’s gassy he’s gassy.
Talk to him about not doing it in front of other people, I think in front of immediate family is a gray area. In our house we’re ok with it.

Aren’t you the parent?

I know it sounds silly because he’s a 12 year old boy who thinks it’s funny but he’s constantly farting around the house like a dog marking his spot. It’s little toots but it makes me want to scream.

He’s also our kid that doesn’t have a lot of self restraint. Things he wants he wants NOW and everyone else’s is to blame.

I know we have time to help course correct and farting is one part of a bigger issue but how do I at least get him to stop farting around the house intentionally. I know it’s not a big deal in the long run, but to me it feels like one piece of a much bigger problem (which we are working on).
