It’s also an easy program for a small college to have. No major lab costs.

DD's two college roommates are Neuroscience majors. One is pre-med and the other one is interested in a future STEM career but is not too sure in what area. From what I can garner, they both like the mix of STEM classes and psychology classes.

interesting, my DD wants to do engineer but also interested in medical school potentially....this would probably be a very hard major/minor--what type of engineering?

There are enough career pathways that make neuroscience a worthwhile major. But medical school or allied health programs are not the only options with a neuroscience degree.

A lot of students pick a major they or their parents see as helpful for getting into medical school.

They take the intro chem and bio classes, but not the upper level classes (300-400 level). That's why they're crapped on. It's more of a survey major with less depth and rigor.

It's interesting and there's now a sizeable enough research body that it is stands on its own rather than just as a part of psychology. Psychology has long been a popular major.

It is far more academically rigorous than Kinesiology which really only leads to physical therapy

Think of how many posts here are people asking why someone else did or said something. It’s reasonable college kids want to understand how the brain works too.

Surprising. Not supervising. 😂

Spin-off of a different thread - I’m curious why neuroscience is so popular now. We’ve seen it as the declared major on a supervising number of the 2023 and now 2024 admits posts for our HS.

Is this just the new “pre-med”? What are kids doing or planning to do with this major after graduation?
