I really love the Mystic area. Wander around Stonington (next little town north) and also check out the submarines in Groton.

I second the rec for Mystic Seaport. We went when my DD was at Brown and all enjoyed it.

Also don’t miss waving at T Swift’s house at the end the beach (next to the lighthouse IIRC).

Mystic has a cute downtown with an array of boutiques and shops. The aquarium is nice. Not much there to justify more than a night's stay.

I think the aquarium is nice but I think Mystic sometimes is a little overrated as a stop. If the weather is nice, the Sea view snack bar is a classic seafood shanty type place where you can have a nice lunch on picnic tables by the river.
