Yep, because my kid can get home and I know my neighbors will boot him if they need to do something else.

I just let one of my teens walk home from the immediate next door neighbor, but didn’t let her sibling walk home from the school friend who lives a 12 minute drive away.

I let them hang out a bit later because the "commute" home is so short.

If I did - the only reason would be because they could get themselves to / from the friend’s house without my involvement

+1. Also, with neighbors they pretty much arrange their own play dates / activities. Sometimes they come over, sometimes my kids go over, once they got to late elementary and need less active supervision, parents somehow got out of the arrangements when they hang out at each others’ houses.

Yes because I am friendly with my neighbors and their families. I have known them for years and have been to their houses. I might not even meet the parents of my kids's school friends.
