I have clients there. It seems like a totally dysfunctional school, with low expectations and students doing more hanging out than going to class.

Hi, OP- I know several students who selected it as their out of boundary choice. Seems like students IB for Coolidge or Roosevelt who opt otherwise choose the other, for programming (Coolidge) or sports (Roosevelt). Neither will appeal to the “top achiever” families with access to Jackson Reed but there are great kids at both. I don’t pay attention to test scores.

The global studies program is really interesting and their NAF academy director is very engaged. I personally haven’t built as good a relationship with Principal Wilkerson as I did with the current principal as I did with Principal Ralston, but a call would get you a tour.

The student body is, as a general rule, years behind grade level. No one with options is sending their kids there. With all due respect, moving to DC with HS age kids and moving IB for Roosevelt is parental malpractice.

Right, so posting about things that happen outside of school also aren't necessarily relevant. Ex Mundo Verde has gone through phases with tons of drug-related incidents outside/nearby unrelated to the school. There have been spikes of carjackings and shootings and Capitol Hill. Crime is not good, but separate answers about schools, to actually provide good info.

How to put this? Most families in Petworth do not send their kids to Roosevelt. It’s not a good school.

My family is moving here and they like Petworth. They have high school aged kids, so I would like to know what people think about Roosevelt. My main concern is safety. I live in Petworth and see lots of kids loitering when they should be in school.
