Yes should have included that is what we bought the house for. We put down 1 million, they loaned us the $800000 remainder.

No. I bought a condo at 25 when I made $28k as a fed employee. Sold it with a $17k profit 6 years later, used that along with the same from spouse [also sold a condo that was bought in mid-20s] for our current home, which we bought at $330k 25 years ago, which is now worth $1.2 million now.

Not sure where we'll move next, kids out of the house but not yet settled.

Not directly, however, my parents when they were living typically gave us an annual gift between $15k and $30k. We used portions of those gifts eventually for a down payment. We are 50 and have a paid off townhouse worth $750k.

My dad had passed away several years earlier, so we used a portion of my inheritance for the down payment.

Bought it for 750k in 2017, worth about 950k now.

I don’t understand those who are just getting 1 million dollars towards a house. There are tax implications.

In-laws gave us 10k when we purchased home in 2000 for $167k. House is now worth maybe 750k, after we expanded/remodeled.
