The reason being they don't want any traffic deaths from people driving and not paying attention. It's also a fear event. That's why the warnings are going out. Demons love that loosh.

I am here in the zone of totality. Many districts are cancelling school that day. It is nuts.

I am on the outer edge of totality (3 mins rather than the 4.5 mins in the middle) so it won't be too crazy here and my kids will be in school though they are taking them all outside for it(!). But the small towns in the middle of the zone are warning about cell phone service, traffic, etc. due to the influx of people that day. There are lots of "festivals" happening on private land and ranches as well.

There will be many continuous hours of traffic jams, that's the issue. So, if you're planning to go eat, get gas, grocery shop, daily errands..., you'll likely have trouble finding things, not to mention add to the traffic. Texas also loves to overstate warnings and get people anxious and prepped. It will pass with few issues and everyone will laugh that they didn't need all these supplies after all.

My family still lives in Texas and confirm that they’ve been told by local authorities to stock up on water, canned food, batteries, etc before the eclipse. I sorta wrote off all the chatter before I heard this from my brother’s mouth. Anyone with a scientific background able to help me understand why this event may be different than those prior?

This is not a “doom” posting and I’m not looking to argue about whether or not these warnings are being issued. I’m genuinely just curious about what could set this occurrence apart.
