Condesa was full of 2-3 bedroom airbnbs, all of tons of reviews. We just picked one with lots of reviews (and a nice kitchen and balcony!) and had a great experience.

For what it's worth, many Mexicans (on social media) are asking tourists not to use AirBnBs. They argue that full-time AirBnBs are raising the rent for regular Mexicans and pushing them out of some of the more popular neighborhoods, like Condesa and Roma.

I used to live there and have my own opinions. Maybe staying in someone's actual apartment (vs. a full-time/permanent AirBnB) helps alleviate that. I'm not sure.

Check out some equally pleasant neighborhoods up and down Insurgentes, like Del Valle, Narvarte, Escandon, etc.

I can’t recommend any Airbnbs, but I’ve stayed at both the Intercontinental and the Hyatt in Polanco (they’re next to each other) and they were both great. The Hyatt is very cheap if you have Hyatt or Chase points.

Thanks! We are usually good with making small spaces work so I'll check it out.

The breakfast/lunch thing is mostly to make accommodating my one kids' allergies a little easier. Tho we speak Spanish and can navigate that out too.

OP here. I agree. That's why I posted!

Mexico City used to be so amazing. A quick flight into a different world full of great food, architecture and culture. Now it’s just full of anxious middle aged crazy Americans.

We stayed here and it was great-- convenient location, good price, and very safe with a 24 hour doorman. It was 2 bedrooms but only one bed in each, so maybe not the best for you.

I had the same reservations,going in April. I think we will just do things "differently" this time and do a hotel and have to find breakfast out. All other meals too.

We stayed at a perfectly safe Airbnb in Condesa. The 2nd bedroom was very small though so probably wouldn’t work for your trip.

I would not do a random air b n b in Mexico. I think Mexico is generally safe for travelers but there is definitely an unsafe element and a random airbnb owner might not be trustworthy. Most wealthy Mexicans have significant security at their homes, for a reason. I think this is a good place for a hotel, where the hotel can worry about those things.

I wouldn’t try to save money on linch when you can get such great cheap food there…

Adding, it will be a family of 4 with two upper elementary kids that are great travelers.

We were going to stay in a friend's air bnb this summer but had to change our dates slightly and his place is already booked for our new week.

Any recommendations? I prefer an air bnb but my husband is only comfortable if its from someone we know or we know people who have stayed there. (I wouldn't mention that by know ... I mean DCUM, of course!) My preference is mainly because it allows us to make breakfast and some lunch at home and you get so much more for your money. But, I'm not at all opposed to a hotel with the option to use a gym once or twice and get recommendations from the staff there. There are just so many, I don't know where to start.
