Thank you, 16:34. Glad you were successful in losing the weight. The idea of combining SSRI’s with those drugs is interesting. I need to lose 40. This thread has been helpful. I really didn’t know the specifics about insulin resistance and the body storing the excess sugar as fat. This knowledge has helped me not feel quite so bad about the weight gain. I wonder if metabolism-revving activity such as HIIT and heavy weights would help.

I gained 10lbs and lost them fairly easily on weight watchers and an exercise program after I stopped the meds. I think eventually they will start studying if a low dose of the new weight loss drugs can be prescribed with the SSRI to prevent weight gain.

13:28, sorry to hear of the insurance issues. That's awful. Your story is what I'm concerned about-- the pounds coming back after stopping the drug. That said, I don't know much about those drugs. I'm going to ask my doctor.

Thank you for these links, 13:37. When I was on anti-depressants, I thought the sudden weight gain was just my fault for not exercising enough. (My diet was and is pretty healthy.) I had no idea about the link to insulin resistance! Is there any research into what to do now, in response?

Unless you are eating more on your SSRI, it is insulin resistance and normal glucose testing won't catch it./

I gain 35 pounds in 4 years. I tried ozempic an went down by 20 pounds only to have it come right back after my insurance stopped covering it.

I just started zep bound. For this reason it's not so much that it lowers your metabolism, but there is a huge link between SSRIs and insulin resistance

I have gained 35 lb in 3 years

Our plan is to use the zetbound to lose the weight and then switch over to metformin which should be as effective and countering the insulin resistance once the weight is gone

Thank you, 4:38! I haven’t really considered the semaglutide route for this. So it was okay to take it for only two months? For some reason, I thought that drug had to be ongoing? So glad that you found a solution!

I did. I went to a med spa to get on a compounded semaglutide for 2 months and lost the 25 lbs to get back to my normal weight of 125 lbs. It was $300 a month.

Any insight on losing weight gained from anti-depressant use? The theory is that SSRI’s can lower metabolism, leading to weight gain. I gained about 40 pounds. It’s awful. Have any of you experienced the same?
