Pitt is not public

DCUM overall has an issue with cold and snowy weather.

DD has had an easy time making friends. She's part of a sorority and plays club sports. We know others kids at Rochester who are not part of the Greek or sports scenes and they have found their people/their thing rather quickly as well. Students seem very involved in many clubs, as well as academic "extras" - i.e. research, TA, etc.

That is fantastic to hear...how about other students? Is it easy to make friends? I'm hearing more and more of clubs/activities being "competitive" or exclusive on some campuses, especially at some of the highly selective schools.

OP here- thanks for the replies.

Yes, this is what I’m reading and it seems like it would be a very good target for a very strong DMV student who wants an urban school, which is why I’m surprised I don’t see it mentioned more on this board or in the DMV more generally (Pitt gets lots of attention)…anyone have personal experience? Is the environment supportive or very competitive? Is it mainly graduate focused?

Take 5, or the fifth year free, is still very much an option.

Good school. Good academics with some flexibility and breadth in how you satisfy requirements. Attractive campus. Rochester is nicer then most upstate NY cities. Good sports teams. Worthwhile to consider.

Cold! Tunnels!

A high percentage of international students for some reason (15%)

Used to be able to take a fifth year for free- no longer

Nice size

Town reminds me of Pittsburgh

These are my takeaways from visiting with my DD a few years ago. They gave her a nice merit scholarship but she chose another school.

I hear very little about it around here but it would seem to check a lot of boxes and be a good target for a lot of strong students- what am I missing?
