They said the division structure will be the same.

Their main concern seems to be keeping rec and travel as separate as possible. They asked the orgs with rec and travel teams to try and make sure the teams played on different fields. And the reps aren't even attending the same meetings.

That’s not surprising. NCSL is glorified rec. I don’t think they want NCSL parents realizing how similar the quality of play is

And ECNL-RL around here is about the level of NCSL.

Here we go again. Rec parents trashing travel kids. You guys are so predictable. If your volunteer league were so great even us travel parents would stay. Kids just cannot grow and develop at the same level in Rec with some well intentioned volunteer parents as they can in any decent travel program. If you want to take a sport very casual, for fun and some simple exercise and socializing then yes rec is fine. But any real development is not going to happen in 99.9% of rec teams.

Agree!
It was so lame once SFL got rid of their end of season tournament. The scores don't matter, coaches didn't even call them in, and no one cared about forfeits for cheating so there were many issues with unrostered players.

No other rec sport just ends without a tournament or playoffs. Its weird.

Some coaches were weeks late updating the score. It’s annoying. It should be the refs job to submit the score especially with some of these volunteer coaches. We never had issues with cheating. What did you experience or hear about?

The orgs pay referees for SFL games significantly less than they pay referees for travel games so that might be one reason they want to keep the fields separate.

I think SFL was charging but a very small amount at the end as they used up their bank account…

The last few seasons, SFL teams all played in that league for FREE because they were spending down their bank accounts. SFL did not charge the rec leagues for their teams to participate. at all.

But our rec teams still practiced on a crappy field, kids had to buy the uniform, there was no tournament and each kid paid more than $200 to play every season. Where did the money go? In the rec league admins bank account?

I think NCSL will do a better job running it, but I am worried that prices will increase. It seems like the natural progression because everything around here is a money grab. NCSL didn't buy SFL out of the kindness of their hearts . . . they want to make money. We do rec because it's fun and affordable. Not interested in paying an arm and a leg like some nutso travel parents who think their kids are the next Messi or Mia Hamm.

They will never allow rec and travel to play in the same bracket. Rec teams beating travel teams, especially from the same club, are a club's worst nightmare. Those low level NCSL teams help subsidize the higher level teams. If parents realize they are no better than rec, plenty will opt to pay $150 instead of $2,500

The NCSL/ SFL/ rec side is completely separate from the travel side. They are trying to keep it as close to the existing SFL model as possible. They are having separate meetings with the rec people from the clubs (separate from the regular travel meetings I mean). I think the NCSL running the program will be great for SFL families and coaches personally.
