I have a friend with a 5th grader At FV. She reports vaping in the bathroom that 4th and 5th graders are doing. School isn’t telling parents what’s going on.
This would give me pause. I don’t know about the other 2 schools.

Rosa Parks seems fairly under control as far as drugs/fighting from the perspective of my DS. He hasn't seen any vaping..there were a few fights he's known about over the last 2 years

Wood MS is not in its best place right now. A lot of fights and bullying incidents that get brushed away. That said there are some really standout teachers there

Rockville is good, better than wood imo. It’s a smaller HS so students actually have a good chance of getting on the sports teams, unlike some of the bigger schools. And there are a lot of special programs like the IB program.

I'll chime in to say that the Wood principal is wonderful. And there are some great teachers. But I do agree that the fights are out of control. Plus issues with vaping/drugs. Sounds like that might be the case at many MCPS middle schools so not sure how much different it is in Olney.

The Rockville IB program is lackluster. See if you can find stats to see the IB Diploma rate to get a feel for how kids do.

All of Olney ES feeds to Rosa Parks.

Yes, but there are other elementary schools in Olney besides Olney ES.

I have generally heard good things about Wood/Rockville but I would not be surprised if the other clusters are better for MS/HA.

PS we are in FV neighborhood and it’s really lovely to be a walker to school. If you decide to go with this cluster I think being in the neighborhood adds a lot of value.

I have kids at FVES and Wood and I think this assessment is pretty accurate. One thing about the portables--they are all used for the 5th graders so it's kind of nice that the older kids have their own little "island" since they switch classes at that point. Its not a majority of the school by any means.

I know people with kids at both schools, and they're very happy. It's nice that Wood is Rockville's only feeder middle school, so the kids are at the same school together from 6th to 12th. Rockville also has IB programs.

Moving into the area and currently house hunting. Considering flower valley and also olney. Opinions on olney elementary schools (cashell, olney elementary) vs flower valley elementary? We drove past FVES and it looked like a lot of portatrailers which made me hesitate, compared to cashell.
