Most schools can provide accommodations, but almost none will provide remediation/specialized instruction. What does your child need? Would they/you be ok with tutoring after school if needed?

We are at Bullis and both of my children have ADHD and one has dyslexia. The learning support has been amazing for us, but we do have to get extra tutoring outside of school for my child with dyslexia. I will say that it is difficult for her because she sees her classmates getting honor roll, when she is getting only a couple A's and mostly B's. We are still very proud of her, always remind her of what a hard worker she is, and try to remind her that everyone is on a different path.

We are grateful that we have the means to have both of them in a smaller school that can provide the accommodations they need without jumping through hoops.

To OP: Here is our experience after choosing one of these and doing extensive research with families of kids that attend each of these schools: St Andrews Lowel Mclean Green Acres Maret (for younger kids has been great!) Field Burke.

I’ve taught at area privates. A lot of families who have not formally explored diagnosis have a feeling that their child needs something “more,” so they are drawn to the small class sizes privates offer. Since learning differences are not connected to intelligence, many of these students do well on standardized tests and in interviews. If they have the adult support and executive function skills to keep up with a school’s curriculum, things usually work out quite well.

Very much depends on the school. All can handle kids with mild ADHD. Language-based LDs would be more rare but mild ones could probably be handled with some additional outside tutoring. Rochambeau would be harder for language-based LDs since they are already managing immersion.

Hi OP, if you don't mind--what exactly do you mean by special needs? I've inquired about a couple of the schools you listed and was specifically told they don't have vast accommodations for kids with special needs (beyond a school counselor, extended time, etc). Would love to know what you've heard differently!

I wouldn’t say “high numbers” (what does that even mean, exactly?) but all of them have some kids with accommodations. Some are much less accommodation-friendly than others.

They all do, its just whether the school provides any support other than extended time.

Do the private schools in this area have high numbers of students with special needs? My research shows that Green Acres, McLean, Harbor, St Andrews all have high numbers but what about Geneva or Rochambeau etc
