Septum piercings are part of queer culture these days. While not everyone that has them is LGBT, I do assume that anyone who has a septum done is queer until proven otherwise. The more piercings, the more likely they're gay.

Am struggling now with whether or not to hire a 24 yo who is well spoken, organized and responsive, but who has both multiple face piercings and neck tattoos. It's for a job that requires her to be the "face" of the business and the first person with whom people would interact. Was she not so "adorned", or if it was more of a back office position, I would not have a second thought, but I am hesitating.


That would be a mistake and you would not be able to keep them from adding even more piercings and tattoos once hired.

No way as the first person they come in contact with until it's a tattoo place, hair salon, or the like. If it's a business, even tech, no way. It is sending a certain message about how you run your business, and unless you cater to young alternative types, not a good look.

Septum piercings? They're just not a big deal anymore and not really a symbol of counterculture.

Like most piercings, they can be styled or intended to reflect a more edgy/alt/punk aesthetic, but most of the people I know with septum piercings are feminine young women, not preppy but not really alternative in any way. Maybe what we would have called hipsters 15 years ago. Many wear delicate or intricately designed jewelry.

I've seen a lot of gen Z folks recently in certain places wearing bull style nose rings. Is that tied to a style that has a name right now? I know the names of styles from 15 years ago, but not anymore. Are there any clued-in parents able to speak to this? Just curious.
