I think it's sad, like they don't want to talk to you.

I don’t need a daily phone call, but would like a text ( any time of day) every few days so I know all is well. My immediate family is happy to communicate.

What is the resort and what is the cost? I'd like to spend a couple months doing this.

So you heard from them and knew they were doing ok? What is the issue here?

They’ve set boundaries about communication when they are traveling. What is the issue?

They probably feel it's a hassle to call internationally while they're on vacation. They do not want to be intruded on with your phone calls, hence the "don't call us we'll call you" line, but when they're there they just couldn't be bothered. Which is fine. They're living a great life.

This seems completely appropriate to me.

That is fine OP. They let you know where they are and text occasionally so you know they are ok. Don't see anything wrong with it.

I think as long as there was some communication (email, texts) occasionally I can't see anything wrong with this.

What's the problem if they texted? If you're worried someone else is doing the texting, just throw in something only they would know about.

We dont need to speak by phone- it is fine not to, we are all adults--- but when someone specifically says "don't call us, we will call you" there is a certain expectation.

I think texting is fine unless there's an emergency or crisis of some kind. Why do you need to talk to them on the phone?

Long story short: My parents spend 2 months at a Thailand resort every year. I am mid-50's and have 2 adult brothers. We all have families.
Although my parents are older, they are both in great physical and mental health.

Every year before they leave for their trip, they say, "don't call us- we will call you." They always call once. They just got back, and this time they did not call anyone even once. We did communicate more regularly by text (brief texts.)

My question is what do you think is an acceptable level of communication in this situation?
