For the sake of the common folk:

I’m 45, make 100k, and have $350k in my 401k.

DH is 55, makes 130k, and has $650k in his 401k.

We only reached this income in the last three years and I’m proud of us; maxing our 401(k)s is a real sacrifice.

We are turning 50 this year and hope to use the last decade of working to beef these up and retire at 60.

Me again, forgot to add we have Roth IRAs $500k for me and $200k for him.

That means a total of 7.5x our salaries at 50, which is more than on-track according to Fidelity who says 6x by age 50.

I'm really proud of where we are with so many health challenges from DH. He did tell me this morning we may have to move from our townhome because of the stairs, though. Was hoping to get another 10 years here, but we will see. Fortunately, it's a good townhouse and will sell quickly, but I'm not ready to go into a condo yet and we can't maintain a SFH.

42. Single income/SAHM household. $3M retirement and taxable investment accounts. Salary fluctuates $300-400k the past few years but started in the mid 100’s out of grad school. Had two “events” each worth about $300k - proceeds from the sale of a rental and company exit event. That $600k was fully invested and not spent. We live on about $12-13k/month total.

Me: 54, $170K, $1.4mil
Spouse: 59 $150K (roughly, they are a contractor), $1.4 mil.

Spouse made way more money than I did for a lot longer but I saved more earlier on. Power of compounding growth.

excludes cash account ($200K) and 529 investments (fully funded for in state)

I think there are tons of threads on this topic if you run a search. Regardless, H and I are as follows:

Me: 45, $180K salary, $700K in retirement funds, $80K pension.
H: 47, $125K salary, $700K in retirement funds.

Taxable investments, 529s, etc are separate.

I’m taking a poll. I’ll go first. Age 44, income 125k, retirement savings are 540k.
