American Fiction was so incredibly boring. Literally a dude in the theatre with me fell asleep (and was snoring loudly) at the matinee showing I went to.

We should definitely rank a movie based on one random dude in a theater who was tired. Thanks for weighing in.

I agree with you on Oppenheimer. Not that great. It’ll probably win most everything, sadly.

Killers had good acting.

I haven’t seen Poor Things yet.

My number one is Killers of the Flower Moon, followed by Past Lives. I think Killers of the Flower Moon and Oppenheimer will take home most of the awards, Paul G may win for the Holdovers and Emma Stone for Poor Things.

Lily Gladstone should win for best actress, but the script was pretty bad. The move seemed like a wrestling match between the egos of Leo and Robert.

Maestro sucked.

Murphy was great in Oppenheimer - but that movie was not worth a rewatch. I say this as an academic in an adjacent field (I loved the Manhattan project stuff). Nolan is so overrated.

What I think will actually win?

1. Oppenheimer
2. Maestro
3. Barbie

This makes no sense. You list Maestro and Barbie on the first list as movies you “don’t think will win,” but then list them again on the second list as movies you “think will win.”

Is anyone else confused?

Think op was ranking them.

American Fiction was by far the best film but is politically problematic so can’t win. Safe bet is Oppenheimer, which imo was wildly overrated. Hollywood will love it because it went with the blacklist / communist angle which is still a big deal.
