What types of events? I am often in the car- usually working but sometimes chatting on the phone with friends or playing on my phone- while waiting during sports practices or waiting to pickup from routine activities. I don’t care to stand around socializing or watching sports practices- is a waste of time.

I used to go in and sit at my kids practices then covid hit and we weren't allowed. And, I have bad health issues so me being indoors in close contact with others is not a great idea as I catch everything.

But they do go watch their own kids' events, right? If they have jobs, they manage to attend work-required events, right?

I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I can’t seem to make friends with my daughter’s friends’ parents. We seem to have nothing in common and every conversation is just excruciating. I try but it’s unenjoyable. I typically talk for like 15m and then go to my car.

I have lots of friends in real life.

Sitting in my car is so enjoyable. It’s peaceful, I can do whatever I want and it’s a break from kids.

What do you want them to do?

I do it at my 15-year old's evening practices. I can see the field from my car if I want to watch.

He would not want me on the sidelines. lol It's too far to go home and come back.

I listen to NPR, call my mom or sister, catch up on work- read. It's been too cold or wet.

Sometimes I bring the dog and will walk. Sometimes I leave to run an errand (total wine, trader joe's nearby) or get gas.

But--this cold winter most of the time I stayed in the car.

Most of the kids that live nearby are dropped off. We don't have that luxury and also can't carpool since nobody lives remotely near us.

My Senior now drives himself to everything.

What type of events?

They are working while waiting for their kids, so they can be there to pick them up and then take them home. No reason to waste all that gas and have to take leave from work if you can set your phone up as a hot spot.

Probably working. On the phone having meetings so they are there, but not really there.
