A GS-11 maxes out at 107590 at a step-10 (about 20 years of service for steps only for time in service). An ACPS Bachelor's level teacher maxes out at step 21 99251. As for benefits, federal employees seem to have more options, but the minimum family health plan (with huge maximum caps) is $331 a month, and the platinum family plan is $1667 a month. Retirement contribution is 4.4%
Another comparison for thought is Fairfax County is hiring a Child Protective Services specialist II with a preferred MSW. That position is an S23 on the Fairfax County pay scale with a minimum hourly rate of $30.26 and a maximum $50.43.
That is not to say that teachers should not be compensated more, but there are many people doing really important work of service for similar compensation.
