Time off is at a premium for most people, may as well optimize enjoyment

I just did this for Feb break, lol. We had a ski trip booked but thankfully we hadn’t bought the lift tickets yet and I was able to get credit for the flights. I just didn’t want to go somewhere cold.

We ended up going to Las Vegas and Death Valley instead. Everyone had fun and it was very warm and sunny every day. My DH was a little irritated but oh well.

I did this last year. Booked a trip to Clearwater beach because the flights were cheap and it seemed like a smart, affordable choice. I switched to Caribbean after I realized I didn’t actually want to go to Florida.

This is true. Don’t book unless me and family are excited. Do your research. Totally ok to go back to places you know you love.

My kid went on vacation with another family where they were supposed to rock climb and kayak and hike out west and one kid had an injury so they switched and went to Florida for a much more chill vacation.

I’ve done it a ton and never regretted it. Switched a beach trip to Japan when I found amazing flights. Switched a ski trip to San Francisco when bad weather (found a flight we had to leave for within the hour, but it was cheap!), and tons of little tweaks. Oh, last year we switched Long Island to Quebec on a dime after a Covid scare.

LOL opposite here. If I ever booked a national park vacation (never would I ever) I would need to change it.

We did it once when ski conditions were not favorable. Went to FL instead. Everything we booked was refundable - we saved money and had a great time.

pp here, I've definitely started doing this more now that most airlines don't charge cancellation/change fees.

Where are you going? I have changed up towns in a country while on the trip. Like in Portugal one town we planned to go to was going to be 100 degrees so we didn’t go there, or in Costa Rica we skipped one beach town because we didn’t want to go anymore. Do you need new flights? Or could you just go to a different town or hotel to for a different vide or experience?

Agree- stay the course and try to notice what you like about the place. The fun I’ve had on family trips is not that dependent on the location. I bet you’ll have a pretty good time.

Anyone done this? I know this sounds absolutely crazy, but I am just not excited about the place we chose for spring break.

I know pickings are slim and prices will be at a premium, but I am seriously considering a last minute switch for our spring break vacation.

Anyone done that before, tips to share? Regrets??
