Neither of our kids has a linked in profile, both accepted to colleges they wanted to attend (both over 1500 on SATs)

Hate how we’re forcing these kids to put all their business online.
I’ve never hired anyone from LinkedIn but I use it all the time to checkout people we might sue, or just people from my neighborhood. I bet it’s used more often for that than for real purposes.

right.. people aren't going to see your resumes unless you are applying for a job with that company, but anyone on linkedin can search and view your profile.

none of me, dh or any of three kids in college have linked in. It hasn't seemed "necessary" for any of us.

Not required. My LinkedIn remains a recording of my education and job (company/title/dates, no details). No introduction, no picture. I don’t have problems getting hired.

Depends on his field. Husband is a statistician and gets jobs through recruiters so it's necessary. I am a teacher and it's not necessary at all. For a college student maybe it would help with internships. I don't like having personal information about myself online. I feel uncomfortable since my work is so small. People would easily know where I am during the day.

Once he’s graduated and started his first job, or has a couple of internships under his belt, then I could see it. Don’t really see the point before that.

+1 you need a linkedin profile, with your major, gpa, classes taken in your field and grades, if they are good, and any work experience.

My CS kid and their friends, different majors from eng to business, have linkedin profiles.

Eh. Business schools like students to make them but not sure how important they are.

Nobody uses LinkedIn. Would be weird for teen to have it.

I think there must be Linked In marketing people on DCUM, trying to convince everybody a profile is necessary. It's really not.

The only thing I'd do is check to see if something offensive comes up on Google search. Like, if your kid is Larlo and another Larlo has a terrible and prominent social media presence, your kid might need to create his own as a defense.

I’d go further and delete the profile all together.

Our son has a profile but nothing on it. He thinks it's creepy and it put off by the whole thing. Trying to convince him it is unfortunately sketchy to not have one (or have one with nothing filled in) and he may miss out of opportunities.
