If you decide to grow it, be mindful that it has a tendency to send out runners and pop up in odd places. It’s a terrific native plant, but plant accordingly.

Just plant it in a sunny spot. I don’t actually know what the bought ones taste like but the local ones taste like jolly ranchers to me.

So you can grow it(Passiflora edulis) here as an annual but it will not produce fruit. The Maypop(Passiflora incarnata) is native and will produce fruit. Though in my opinion it does not taste the same.


I haven't tried he African passion fruit but the local maypop looks similar and is very, very tasty. Perennial with many fruits.

You can try growing maypops. I just get my fix from Rincon Tropics when I feel like it.
