My almost 4 year old and her same age cousin live in princess dresses when they are playing together. But my K daughter has moved past them.

Buy one size bigger so they fit over clothes or if she has a taller friend on a play date and they want to dress up together.

My nieces at that age really liked princess inspired dresses that they could wear to school too. So not itchy rustly too long for the monkey bars dresses which they loved for dress up at home or Halloween.

Op here. I will get her a princess dress. Where should I shop now for better quality ones? Do you buy one size bigger or just fit?

My kids schools have always had a dress code or uniform so no costumes were allowed , but my kids definitely still loved to play dress up in princess dresses at home or parties probably until 2nd grade. They also have more casual princess dresses now that look like a t shirt on top and a short tulle skirt on the bottom , that would be more suitable for school that they could wear with leggings if they want to wear a princess dress to school.

First, I entirely agree with a previous commenter... If you think that kindergarten kids are too old for pretty costumes like princess and mermaid dresses, then I imagine childhood is grim, too. Of course, this is a matter of opinion, and you probably have your reasons for thinking this way, but I imagine it all to be grim. In other words, I wouldn't say she's too old for it. However, apart from events like Halloween and class parties, she's most likely only allowed to dress up when she's not at school. One of the reasons for this is that costumes are distracting and disruptive during the school day. There is also the issue of equality. These costumes are not cheap, and there are children whose families cannot afford expensive costumes. But you can look for clothes inspired by princesses and mermaids. There are accessories with appropriate motifs, too. You can also consult the handbook, the website or ask the teachers.

My 1st grader still loves to dress up in princess dresses but they’re not allowed to wear costumes to school, even on Halloween, certainly not as daily wear. At home though she and her friends who come over to play at our house love to dress up.

My 1st grader still loves those costumes. She doesn't wear them to school (there is a uniform) but it's probably the most popular item in our house for playdates. I would not view it as overkill to get a couple more for her birthday -- they will get worn and played with.

K girls definitely still wear princess dresses, just not to school. I would get them for her if she’s asking and enjoy it while it lasts.

My youngest is in 4th and most of last year would come home and put on a dress up dress. No longer particular princess, but a “fancy” dress and accessories out of the dress up closet. I doubt many girls her age still are, but she still enjoys it, so I’m fine with it.

No she can’t wear it to school but she can definitely play at home! We just had a birthday party for my kindergartener and several girls found my older daughter’s old dress up stuff and went crazy. It was adorable- they just did all the party activities as princesses.

Not too old, but I agree not for wearing to school once she starts kindergarten.

My DD is in 1st grade and still plays dress up, but has moved away from her princess costumes in favor of more generic “fancy dress” costumes. I remember playing dress up with my mom’s old bridesmaid dresses and shoes when I was early elementary!

Not too old! But I don’t think she’ll be able to wear the costumes to school. Elementary school has dress codes, even public schools.

But certainly she can enjoy dressing up after school!

If kindergarten is too old for pretty costumes, then the rest of childhood is a grim prospect. If you're afraid she'll get teased at school in the fall just tell her that costumes are for home and parties, not school.

My soon to be birthday girl wants princess and mermaid dresses (those Halloween costume style)? She is going to be K this fall, and she has too many dresses at home. I already prepare other gifts, but she only princess or mermaid dresses, nail polish, makeup, accessories etc. Should I get princess costume for her? She has been wearing those costume to daycare these days, once in a while. I don't want her to be laughed by other kids at school. Do public elementary school allow kids to wear those princess costume as a daily wear?
