Be prepared to change your air filters monthly for awhile. The dust issue is real.

I don't know if you had hardwood floors redone, but ours were done right before we moved back in. I was terrified of scratching my lovely new floors so I bought a bunch of rubber things to put down under couches, chairs, etc.

I threw them down under much of the furniture, and it provided us a little leeway to adjust pieces as we got used to the space. I could probably now get rid of them if I wanted, but I figure it can't hurt to have extra protection.

Also, look everywhere for things that could have been missed...our contractor forgot a board under one cabinet in the kitchen we didn't notice until six months later.

And congrats! I was SO HAPPY to be back in my new and improved home. I am so glad we did it, but I never want to do that again.

We do use shelf paper and I am dreading this.

If kitchen was part of your renovation, map out where you will place Things in cabinets before you unpack. I’m sure my husband and our designer thought I was OCD, but I did that and it made unpacking so much easier (and easy to delegate)

Be ruthless about what you allow back into the house. This is the ideal time for a major declutter.

Buy a couple air purifiers and run them for a few weeks to reduce the dust. Even after a deep clean it hangs around.

Create a punch list of things that need to be fixed/tweaked and just add to it the first week you're back in the house. Try to touch every nook and cranny in the home so you can find the problems. Not too hard to get them to touch up chipped paint or cracked switch plates in the first week you're back. Harder to chase them down three months from now.

We’re finally moving back in after almost a year out of our house. Most stuff has been in storage so not a lot of packing to do. Just anticipation. Any tips on getting resettled in our new/old house?
