You DO know it's okay to say no and set boundaries right? Maybe your kid can have one sleepover per weekend, or maybe he can go but you'll pick him up at 10am.

Sleepovers are an absolutely terrible idea. Have you not read the news about the Oregon creep dad who drugged his twelve year old daughter’s friends. Yeah , sleepovers are a big no!

I'm so glad my kids' friends don't do sleepovers.

I went to a sleep over 2-4 times a month every year from about age 6 to age 13. This is not new or weird. If you’re concerned about sexual assault do the hosting and kick your DH and male siblings out for the night to make other parents comfortable.

No. It’s funny how cultural this is, hardly anyone I know in our elementary school does sleepovers for safety reasons. I figured that was the norm everywhere.

Me too. Sleepovers were the best especially starting in middle school, some of my best memories. Who stops sleepovers at 11? They are just getting started.

My kid is younger (7) but I also hate sleepovers. It ruins the next day and can bleed into the week with exhaustion, etc. I also think it's too much socializing in one go for kids that age. I have started saying no unless its a special occasion for the kid - i.e., a birthday.

Too old at 11? We always had late elementary/middle school sleepovers and they were always a blast, even after puberty, they're still kids, why are we rushing them to grow up? Sure, some kids will always do things they shouldn't be, but that's doesn't mean all of them will.

I hate sleepovers and I say no frequently. Fortunately, my kids are very into their sport and that involves early games so it makes saying no easier.

Maybe try a compromise. Say no to sleeping over, but yes to hanging out. Pick him up at 10pm, or whenever the other parents are ok with that.

We do sleepovers rarely because it wrecks my kid. Once a quarter seems good to me. Thankfully most of her friends seem to be on the same page about this.

Is anyone else finding an excessive amount of sleepovers with their elem school kids ?

My son is 11 and everything is a sleepover now. I guess I should be grateful he has friends and is getting invites but every/every other weekend it's, "Can [DS] sleep over?" Whatever happened to just a good old fashioned 4-5 hour playdate?

Then it turns into over 24 hours at someone's house... I'd like to see my kid as well too on weekends/school days off!

I hate to sound all "When I was a kid..." BUT when I was a kid I feel like sleepovers were special occasions. Birthday parties, etc. Now every weekend, there's a sleepover.

Also they go to bed so late - one time they went to bed at 4:30am! Wtf? And then of course DS is so cranky and can't function the next day.

I know what you're going to say - "Then don't let him sleepover." But of course then the guilt comes that I'm not letting him have any fun.

Does anyone else experience this or am I being unreasonable and need to let it go and relax?
