Take the time to learn about each school and visit while classes are in session. Talk to Professors and students.

What area of study is your DD interested in?

She is looking at Fine Arts (BFA)

Think twice before taking out loans for art school!

My son did his associates at FIT in fashion business management. He made some good friends but quickly got disillusioned by the fashion world. It's definitely affordable out of state. We toured Parsons & he just wasn't impressed. It seemed too snooty so we didn't even bother with touring Pratt after that (he figured it had the same vibe and he wanted to be in school in Manhattan). I don't think he regrets his time there & I'm sure that associates will help him in the future (he transferred to a "regular" college because he wanted a more well-rounded liberal arts education). FIT IS well-known in the fashion world - he got a lot of respect for going there.

FIT grad here. Also agree that it depends on what she wants to study. It’s a respectable school for NYC but outside of the bubble it’s largely unknown and difficult to pivot to other industries IMO. I was an Advertising and Marketing Communications major. The professors are amazing and it was a great experience. It can be difficult to make friends as it is a commuter school but NYC is your playground.

I ended up going to Nursing school a few years later bc I needed a stable career.

For those that have had experiences at any of the above - please share! As in-state residents, FIT is most affordable. For the other two, DD would need to take out a loan.

She is NOT interested in pursuing architecture or fashion.
