Inform the embassy and ask for guidance, then look to see what you can find on line. Perhaps being queries to local funeral homes or ask friends if they have had any experience with local funeral homes. GL!

We spent 10k getting a body back from Kenya to the US 15 years ago. The deceased was adamantly opposed to cremation.

The embassy can assist with repatriating remains but a local funeral home will need to handle the preparations. The embassy can refer the family to funeral homes.

Were they there on vacation and had trip insurance? If so, they need to start there.

If not, were they a citizen of the US?
