This is ultimately why I chose never to marry and never to have kids. Having been an abused child myself, and having been predated upon by male members of my family as well as upstanding neighbors who were good friends of my parents, I was keenly sensitive above all else to my ability to provide a safe childhood for any child I might have - and believe me, I desperately wanted to be a mom from my earliest childhood, there was no ambivalence about that and I spent a decade grieving in deep depression when my biological window closed and I knew it would never, ever happen.

But I learned very quickly early in my life from observation and experience that women cannot ever really fully trust a man to show up and parent well and stick around through thick and thin.

And unless you are independently wealthy, when you find yourself a single mom you will likely have to find a partner to help you support your kids so they aren't living in poverty - and then you open the door to predators, because the majority of child abuse perpetrated by men is perpetrated by fathers or boyfriends.

We would like to think that we know our partners and we wouldn't choose such a person - but again I speak from the experience of being a former prosecutor, former CASA, former domestic violence and child advocate; most of the male predators in this world aren't tattooed monsters, they look like the father next door, the teacher at the front of your kid's class, the Scoutmaster, the pastor, etc.

Yes 2 little girls gone in the last month bc of parents (not just moms) letting unsafe, unrelated men live in their home.

Anyone following? It’s so sad but my suspicions were up the first time I heard that the mother’s boyfriend was the last to see her alive. But I’m also confused bc the mom gave an interview that said there was surveillance video of the boyfriend dropping her off Monday morning and now the cops are saying she was already likely dead by Monday morning. Did the mom lie? How is she not currently a suspect?
