Ridiculous post.

Do PT, OP.

PS - I was 50 when I broke my wrist and had surgical repair and PT. I started moving my fingers as soon as the anesthesic block wore off a day or so after surgery. My joints are fine as is my tiny lovely wrist. I of course have a surgical scar, but there is no binding or thickness in the scar because my excellent PT focused some of our time on breaking down adhesion and teaching me how to do that at home as well - the skin is very supple and the scar is just a tiny light line in my skin. I had an excellent orthopedic surgeon and an excellent PT here in south coast Massachusetts.

Ditto on the importance of good PT. Go to a hand and wrist specialist for PT. They are not all the same. The swelling will go down but it may take months. Be patient.

Wrists are difficult heals. Wear the rings on your right hand until you can move them to your left.

Give it 6 months and see if the swelling has significantly decreased. If so, give it more time. If not, get the rings resized.

I broke my ring finger badly was told it would take a year for the finger to return to its new normal size. So, swelling for up to a year is normal. My new normal is too big for my rings but I would think with a wrist injury they should go back to normal.

I spent a few months afterward having really excellent physical therapy, and regained all the use of my wrist/hand and the wrist returned to pre-surgical size as did the hand/fingers.

It was some time before all the swelling went down, so I wouldn't sweat it too much at 3 weeks. But please definitely do a good course of PT to get everything back to pre-surgical shape - lots of people short shrift PT, but having done it after a couple of fractures I can attest it's the most important part of proper healing.

+1. I broke my wrist badly(
Radial and ulnar) back in 2017. It takes time for the swelling to go down, especially after surgery. Can’t stress the importance of PT enough - go early and often, and do the suggested exercises at home.

Broke left wrist about 3 weeks ago and had surgery. Still can't get my rings back on. How long does swelling last? Is it permanent?
