It works well for me to do the travelpass and I get one free day a month. Because the service can be terrible depending on country, I bring my high speed mobile hotspot Orbic device, and that has saved me on a recent international trip. I have unlimited data on my plan and that is honored when I go abroad.

Depending on how you want to use your phone, you might want to look into getting e-sims. Much cheaper than the Verizon daily pass (even at $10/day, which is what I have been charged when using it). You can still use your phone's regular number for WhatsAp calls and texts (assuming whoever you are connecting with is also using WhatsAp), but you would not get regular calls/texts when using the e-sim. You can switch your settings to activate the Verizon daily pass (which will run for 24 hours) if there is a reason you need your number to function outside of WhatsAp.

I would start by seeing what Verizon will "offer" you for your trip location. Looking at my plan it says its $10 per day for international Cayman Islands. The travel pass provides - unlimited talk text and data. I don't think Wifi calling is included in the international plan. I do remember they can and will throttle speeds over a certain threshold and I don't know at what point and what cost the roaming charges take place. A while ago we used the daily international plan in Europe and I was shocked by the roaming charges we encountered even with the "plan". This may seem like a crazy question but does the place you are staying have wifi? Are you primarily looking for coverage when you aren't at the hotel?

Maybe I'm on a different Verizon Plan but my daily international trip rate is $10/day, not $20. That's for most countries. I think Canada and Mexico are maybe now $5/day. (This has changed back and forth. I know at some point those countries were "free." Maybe it varies per plan?)

There's also a monthly rate. Maybe $100, but the time I used it for my kid it was discounted (maybe $65/month) for reasons I didn't fully understand (but didn't object too!).

I'm also enrolled in some Verizon program where I accrue one day/month of "free" international trip service, up to a max accrual of 12 days. That won't help the OP for a trip that's coming up soon, but longer term that's worth considering, depending on your travel patterns.

Also with Verizon international -- be mindful of cellular data usage. If you cross some usage threshold, you'll still have data if I recall, but they throttle the speed for the rest of the day, which can be inconvenient.

Are your phones paid off and unlocked? If not, you are probably stuck with Verizon.

We are traveling to the Caymen Islands for spring break and we are trying to figure out the most cost effective phone plan. We are current Verizon Wireless customers. Would appreciate any recommendations! TIA
