We have an Ikea Poang for this. It has been sturdy so far.

For comfort it's tough to beat Stressless chairs: https://shop.stressless.com/en/c/recliners They come in a variety of sizes to accomodate different body types.

That said, I'd agree with the prior post suggesting some Ikea options. A growing child may find she prefers a different size or style as she ages and as she develops her own sense of style, and purchasing something which is comfortable now but not necessarily a lifelong commitment makes more sense than spending more on a chair which may not suit her in the long-term. Some of Ikeas products are comfortable, ergonomic, and sturdy enough to last a good while if not abused.

I was a huge reader as a kid, and my parents got me a lovely little chair so I could read in my room. Unfortunately, though it looked the part, it just wasn't comfortable, so I never read in it. Focus on comfort. Poang is awesome, as are reclining chairs, but it's tough to get something that will fit an 8-year-old as well as a 14-year-old that has reached her full adult height.

la-z-boy. Get an ottoman too so she can put her feet up. But know that even if you buy something nice, she may still spill stuff on it or the fabric might get torn over time. So it might not work forever, though you can reupholster.

You are right, should have mentioned that. Less than 35” width, sleek and airy as it’s a small room. MCM or transitional, but not ultra contemporary

Thanks to PP for the CB link but it will be way too big for the space.

Honestly, I really think an IKEA poang is a great chair. Great design and super comfortable. Don't hold being cheap against it.

Maybe a womb chair? It might be too wide. I would look on Design Within Reach.

Maybe this one or a dupe of it? https://www.dwr.com/living-rocking-chairs-recliners/milo-baughman-recliner-74/6276.html?lang=en_US

And for a reading chair get one of those recliner sleeper chairs. Nothing more comfortable than being able to stretch your legs and cover yourself with a throw or blanket while reading.

Craiglist will have nice long lasting antiques too, not just cheap disposable ones.

She is 8 but I want one that will be comfortable through adulthood. Would you recommend swivel or stationary?

Any recommendations? Budget up to $2k or so. Please don’t say buy a cheap disposable one on Walmart or Craigslist I want one that will be beautiful and last
