DS says they are girls that dress overly sexual to get the attention of boys. Try too hard to be the one a guy would want. For this generation, a complete turnoff. No one wants to be dating a pick me girl.

Not to be meta, but, if we are criticizing how other girls and women behave, are we any better than them?

I know you didnt want celeb examples, but in the Carrie Underwood song where she breaks a guys headlights with a baseball bat - shes being a pick me. "She probably orders some fruity drink because she cant shoot whiskey" putting down the woman for being girly, insinuating she (Carrie) is better because she can hang with the dudes and shoot whiskey.

Basically if you have to put down other women to "win" you're probably a pick me.

This is the heart of it. It can be explicit or it can be gratuitously implicit (i.e., the heavily implied "see howmuch more appealing I am than them").

It's the framing of "pick me OVER THEM."

Noooooo. Pick me girls are not seen as ‘cool.’ They try to put themselves at the center of attention and then whine about it. They’re mostly seen as an annoyance.

I am so grateful for the term pick-me girl. Many years ago I had a friend who drove me absolutely up the wall and I just grew more and more resentful of her over time but it was so hard to pin down exactly what she was doing that was bothering me.

It was this. The reason it was hard to pick up on was because I was actually in a serious relationship at the time (with my now husband) and was not in competition with her for me. But she'd constantly use me as her foil to try and get men interested in her, which amounted to her frequently drawing comparisons with me in which she would "win" the comparison. And she did it with everyone -- men we worked with, guy friends, men at parties, even my boyfriend (which she would cast as her conspiratorially "teasing" me with him, and which thankfully he did not participate in). She even sometimes did it with women from whom she wanted more attention -- our director at work, some of the more popular women in our circle.

I feel like now if this happened, I'd be like "you're being a pick-me, stop. I don't exist to make you look good." But we didn't have this vocabulary for it then, and when I tried to explain the problem, she'd accuse me of being jealous. But I wasn't. I just didn't want to be her permanent example of someone she was better than.

So yeah, a pick me.

If she’s actually into beer and the game she’s not a pick me. If she’s pretending to like watching football to impress a man she is a pick me.

Taylor Swift You Belong With Me is a pick me, Pussycat dolls "doncha wish your girlfriend was a freak like me", Avril Lavigne Sk8er boi and I dont like your girlfriend, Alanis Morisette You Otta Know.

If you read the lyrics you can get a sense of the comparison/putting down that makes someone a pick me.

From what I gather from my youngster, it is a girl that acts differently in front of boys than girls in order to impress the boys or something along those lines.

It’s a girl who makes a big deal how she’s not like other girls. She’s a guys girl and too cool for girl drama.
