Burke, Field, and St. Anselm's all start in 6th - so whole grade will be new!

This. Holton for example, 6th grade is still part of the lower school. Middle starts in 7th. They take some new girls in 6th but 7th and 9th are the major expansion years.

Check how the middle school is structured for the schools you’re looking at. Some are only 7th and 8th so 6th isn’t going to be a major expansion year (although that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply), and others are 6th-8th (like SSSAS that pp mentioned) so 6th is a significant expansion year.

6th grade is an important entry/expansion year at St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School.

All of the big schools. Potomac does not expand by as many spots as 7th but it’s still an expansion year
