My DD is a student there and really likes it. We are from Bethesda, and my DD is a political moderate. The school is a bit larger than other private schools (7000 undergraduates), which is a nice feature. It's also in the middle of a large city (Dallas), which has lots of corporations with internships and jobs (for gaining experience). The dorms are nice, and the campus is pretty. While there are students there from very wealthy families, the majority seem to be more middle class to upper middle class.

If you’re kid meets the profile go for it.
Pretty campus and Dallas is easy city to live in.

It’s not like that anymore. It’s taken a turn in the last 5 or so years and it’s now where the richest and most conservative kids go to party, network, and meet their spouses. I work at NE boarding school and we can pick out the kids who will go to SMU as soon as they arrive on campus.

That’s how it starts.

The SMU grads I know aren’t “extremely” conservative. They are chamber of commerce conservatives. Socially moderate to liberal. Not trumpy at all.

Sure, if extremely conservative and have the cash to back it up.

Displays of wealth are common at SMU. Can be intimidating and discomforting to some.
