For the OP, two thoughts:

1) You may be getting targeted alerts. I know that missing kids alerts often come through my neighborhood Listserve or FB group, for example, so it tends to be kids who live in our broader neighborhood or attend local schools. This means that the alerts mirror the demographics of the neighborhood.

2) The report that PP linked noted that unaccompanied minors go missing, often because they only have loose ties to their sponsors.

Thanks to you both because that is a fascinating report and targeted geographic alerts make a whole lot more sense than what I was thinking.

I’m asking this and I’m not trying to be inflammatory because I too am Latina.

I get the Montgomery County Police Department missing kids tweets and alerts. Why are 98% of them Latino? Does MCPD put out tweets on all kids regardless of the race or is it just a subset which might be in danger and they happen to be Latino? I don’t know how to ask without sounding insensitive but I’m trying to wrap my head around what is happening within the Latino community especially when it comes to runaways/missing kids. it’s gotten to the point where there are so many missing kids that I don’t even look at their pictures or read them anymore.
