If it is a true fungus, OTC does not work. Go to a derm and get the oral meds. Mid-way through they retest liver (or maybe kidney?) function, unless your child has a problem with that now, they most likely won't.

Ignore the BS treatments, including most of those listed and laser treatments and tropicals. Waste of time and money. Get the oral meds from a derm, and your kid will be fine by summer

Toenail fungus is not that uncommon. Fingernail fungus is a sign that this kid needs to be seen by a dermatologist. Hands are exposed to sun and air all day—getting fungus in fingernails suggests serious immune system problems that need to be ruled out.

This is not a DIY tea tree oil situation.

So you just did nothing and it just went away? Did he have it on his fingernails and toenails?

It takes months to get rid of and in my sons case they advised not treating. The oral antifungals work but have side effect it went away on its own but it took a year.

I have been applying Vicks VapoRub daily and pushing it under the nail and keeping the nail (for me, it’s my big toenail) as short as possible. I have been doing this for 1 month and my nails look better. I took a “before” picture so I could compare.

Tea tree oil directly on the nail works for many.
