I used Four Sales. They sold what they could, donated what was left over and useable and trashed the rest. Easy peasy.

Did your mother die?

If so, you may want to be more careful about what your sister gets or not. The division of possessions may be specified in the will and ignoring this may cause legal problems.

She did not die but very cognitively impaired. Sister is so checked out she will not have a clue what the will says, and plus she trashed my mom's house when she had nowhere else to go.
you can’t go against the will, even if your sister has checked out.

The estate sale person will decide if there is enough value in your mother’s belongings to justify her time. We used a service for my parent’s home and it went smoothly. I am currently cleaning out my recently deceased sister’s house. Nothing valuable-just a crap ton of work of diving up trash vs donate. It is never ending. You will have to look into what is best. Good luck.

Are you the sole executor?

I did estate sale followed by junk hauler. Estate sale paid for junk hauler and a bit more.

Junk 123 or 1-800-Junk are two possibilities.

Junk hauler is usually going to be less expensive than hiring an estate sale company. If you've got actual valuable antiques, call a couple or auction houses, which take a much smaller commission.

I used an estate sale company when I moved my mom across the country. They handled everything, from sale to clean up/donation. While you will not get much $ compared to value of objects if you have nicer things, the peace of mind is priceless and its nice to know that at least some things are getting reused and not going to landfill. I looked up a few, read reviews, and contacted one place.

I'm PP -

Another advantage of the estate sale is that it seems to function as an early open house. Several people left their names for the real estate agent and actually one of them ended up buying the house.

So I am very pro estate sale companies!

Just google estate sales in your area. Pick one with good reviews.

When my father died - I hired a local company. They did all the work -- had the sale -- did the clean out - left the house vacuumed and clean.

They subtracted their fees etc from the sale proceeds and then I got a check for over 1K -- and I did NONE of the work.

Really it is so easy! Good luck!

Estate sales are a good way. Google ones in your area and contact popular companies arranging several sales.
