I had to take an emergency overseas trip with 2 young kids and no DH, and it was one of my most relaxing trips ever, surprisingly.

No weird at all! I take my DC on weekend trips a few times a year to visit close family and friends. Kids play together, I relax and socialize with the adults, DH gets some time alone. I do leave him a (reasonable) honey-do list so he doesn’t get too bored

I wish my DH would stay home.

Where are you thinking of going? Do you mean like a weekend in NYC? I do these types of short trips a few times a year with just myself or with friends.

DH gets 3 weeks of vacation a year. With my earned time rate, I get about 8 weeks but it rolls over every year capping out at 600 hrs. DS and I take about a week long trip plus several long weekend trips without DH. It's fine! DS and I love snorkeling and beach vacations and DH isn't a huge fan as he can't go underwater due to a health issue and he burns easily. So he absolutely doesn't feel jealous that DS and I had to the tropics for a week. He also always has a list of things he wants to get done, whether its for a hobby or stuff he wants to do around the house. He also loves spicy foods and DS and I don't, so he enjoys being able to cook for himself while we are gone.

DH makes sure I have some weekends to myself too and usually once a year he will take DS to his parents to visit for a week and work from there and give me a week off. He tends to save his vacation days for trips with us.

It's fine. Maybe he'll get some things done around the house while you're gone, or he'll catch up on work stuff and you can have some alone time to balance things out.

Not out of line at all. It’s just a weekend, he can enjoy some quiet time. Make sure you get some alone time during the week to balance it out.

We try to do a weekend trip each months, but DH's current responsibilities include some weekend work, and it's putting a damper on our travel schedule. The kids miss our short weekend trips. Am I out of line taking them by myself? I feel odd ditching him, like he'll be lonely in the evenings or something.
