Especially if you're from and/or care about DC, both Katherine Graham and Bill Bradlee's books are amazing. I have recommended Oh the Glory of it All by Sean Wilsey on other book theads on DCUM before -- it's great. And A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson.

Chosen By a Horse. No one famous, just a really great memoir for new beginnings and animal lovers.

+1

Especially the first one - I think it’s called “Stories I only tell My Friends.” It’s not a typical celebrity tell-all. I’d say it’s more of a series of essays about his life that together form a surprisingly reflective and thoughtful personal memoir - not just a play-by-play of his life.

The second one included some excellent essays/chapters, too. But overall, I thought the first was stronger.

Hollywood Park by Mikel Jollett. He's the lead singer of Airborne Toxic Event. Born into a cult; his family got out, but not without a ton of mental and emotional damage. Really well written.

Some memoirs I've enjoyed -

Spare by Prince Henry

I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jeanette McCurdy

Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry

The Many Lives of Mama Love by Lara Love Hardin

Just listened to John Stomos... it was great. Warm and funny and he takes responsibility for where he went wrong without blaming others. Contrast to Matthew Perry's book which was just one litany of how his problems were someone else's fault.

I am also loving Henry Winkler's

I'm putting together a birthday gift for a friend and am looking for recommendations for books, specifically memoirs. She has enjoyed that genre in the past.

Most recently, she recommended: "Crying in H Mart" and "They Called Us Exceptional". I hope that provides some guidance..

But if nothing comes to mind and you have ideas for fiction, I'm open to those too.

Thank you!
