They need to stop adding obscure clubs in far flung locations. No one wants to drive two hours. Its national CAPITAL region, not West Va or Fredericksburg.

Tons of teams are doing this. Playing up (11v11 at U12 or 9v9 at U10) gives the kids experience with what’s coming next, relieves some of the pressure of playing time with bigger rosters, and lets the coach preview some lower team players or guest players in the spring.

Also part of the reason is that the tournament experience is pretty bad now. If parents are given the choice, they would rather play an extra league season (on Sunday if their regular games are on Saturday, or the reverse), instead of playing an extra tournament for basically the same cost. They get 8-9 games instead of 3-4, with no stress about travel or using up yet another weekend.

One tournament can cost more than a league season. The only question is field availability, but top teams should have no problem asking their club for 4-5 extra home game fields in a season.

If a club has multiple teams do this, that is a LOT Of extra game field space. Game fields are scheduled 8 am-8 pm Sat and Sun for almost all clubs. When SFL had all the rainouts in the fall, multiple orgs simply refused to reschedule the rained out rec games, saying they had no field space. You can't magic up extra field space.

These clubs are just now doing this

NCSL schedules and divisions should be released next week... I am sure they are fine as a league. Almost 100 clubs with 15-30 teams each are paid members.

Perhaps they will eventually get enough u10s wanting to play 9v9 in the spring and for a division just for them.

Yeah, I’m not a fan, especially at younger ages. I teach my kids to play physical soccer (but clean), and that’s hard to turn on and off (and I don’t want them turning it off). But inevitably parents freak out when older kids are knocking junior off the ball. You shouldn’t have played up, then…

Other clubs need to follow this (dual rostering/playing up).

Maybe they are dual rostering? Other clubs have done this playing their kids up a year in EDP.
